Grey. He liked this place. Narrow streets surrounded by tall and crumbling giants. It was always dark here – the giants kept the sunlight at bay – and this was why it was so frequented by the scraggly wolf. That, and Tear liked to come home now and again. Scatter liked the way his claws clicked against the hard rock of the ground and that there was rarely anything around to hear it, and he always knew the best places to hide. Not that there was room for fear in the train-wreck of his mind – the paranoia took first-class. He also liked the way the slivers of light which sometimes cracked through gaps in or between the buildings were so easy to dodge – there was always a way around, a way to keep moving forward. And he knew the maze of this place inside and out.
So here he was again. Clacking his way through his territory. The Firea might think it belonged to them, but they were as crazy as he was! Boundaries. Rules. He had not the capability of understanding them, but this was Tear’s home, and the ‘pack’ he was not truly part of couldn’t understand that. So he would patrol. Make sure this place was right. It was his duty to ensure the monsters watching him were kept at bay. And that was what he did. Nothing to explore anymore, he’d seen it all. He just made sure Tear didn’t lose his home too.
It was the bear in question who saw it first. Clutched gently –almost lovingly- in the wolf’s jaws, he could see what Scatter could not. The wolf’s ear twitched and he spun his distorted gaze in the direction that Tear was pointing. His nose worked hard as he made his way across the street towards an alley between crumbling buildings. Passing under a ray of light, he could hear the sizzle of fur, but it was only a little. There were more important matters hiding in the shadows. His hackles rose.
What is it? A whisper, muffled through the teddy, but still too loud in the silence. And he could see it; two sets of tracks –Tear set him right, only one, his eyes were lying. Tear was the only thing he could trust. He gently set the bear down. R-rat? Leaning down close, Scatter sniffed at the tracks and wagged his tail. I was right! A rat, isn’t it? Rats were frequent in the darkness and Scatter knew the scent well.
Just as he turned to leave, he was stopped. What? Food? But I’m not- gruumble Oh! The wolf looked down at his belly, and his tail wagged again a few times. Stomach is! Okay! He happily picked up his buddy and trotted through the dirty alleyway, following the scent and tracks of dinner.

It hadn't been his fault really. He'd only tried to lay in a warm patch of sunlight. He hadn't known that the spot had belonged to someone else, until he'd felt claws and teeth at the back of his neck. They hadn't drawn any blood but it was still a shocking experience. You would think that the Custos would get more respect, but no, not he. In an angry huff he had left the campsite of Firea and wandered off towards the old city. There he could get solitude and possibly some peace.
Now he was wandering through the concrete jungle, claws clicking on the ground and Christa clutched tightly in his hairless tail. 'You should eat soon. You haven't done so in a while.' The wolf rolled his eyes and huffed. "I do not! I'm not hungry at-" At that moment his stomach chose to side with the stone and grumbled loudly. "Fine! I ssssuppose I could eat... but what? There isssn't any prey here." None exept for the many rats that frequented the alleyways looking for old human garbage but he never felt quite right eating rats and only did so when it was an emergency. This situation was not an emergency. So what would he eat then?
'Rats can eat garbage. Can't you as well?' Tsuttar's bright pink eyes widened with the realization. "Yessss, you are right, my friend." With that, he lowered his beloved crystal to the ground and initiated his shift. It wasn't a pretty sight to watch the dirty cream wolf shrink and hear his bones crack and re-size to accommodate his rat form.
Finally the shift was complete and where a wolf had stood a moment before was a dirty cream rat with pink eyes. "Come, Christa, let us forage like my brethren." He picked up the crystal in one paw and carried he away, down to the first alleyway he saw which held an aroma that was tantalizing to his rat-nose.
What he saw at the end of the alley wasn't trash but a rotted carcass that had nearly been picked clean. The type of animal wasn't identifiable but Tsuttar did not care, he simply licked his lips and ran towards the carcass. A few inches away he laid Christa on the ground and began to eat his fill. Until a warning came from his friend.
'Someone is coming!' Tsuttar quickly turned around and saw a wolf approaching... A hungry-looking wolf. What if he was trying to hurt Christa?! 'Or he could be coming for you...' "Shut-up and let me protect you!" With that he leaped in front of the crystal and hissed, baring his needle-like fangs at the wolf, pink-eyes narrowed to slits. The crazed rat-wolf never even thought about shifting back, he was too riled up to even do so successfully in any case. "Stay back! Or I swear I'll rip out your throat!" He would not be chased away for a second time!
"Tsuttar's words are this color!" These are Tsuttar's thoughts!
'Does Christa think?'

It wasn’t long before the duo found ‘dinner’. A rat was hardly a meal, but it wasn’t like the wolf to be picky about what he ate –in fact, he rarely took note of his welfare, aside from the times Tear would remind him. As he moved up the alley, the scents caught him fully, and he noticed the carcass. Seems like a bigger meal than he thought, then.
The wolf nodded to a voice only he could hear and his grin grew wider over the bear clutched within his maw. For yet another time that night, his tail started to wag slowly back and forth, even as he crouched into a stalking position – not that there was much of a point. Eat the bones, too~ The bones were his favourite part and he was rather looking forward to this meal. So was his stomach.
Scatter crept closer and closer to his prey, licking his lips in anticipation. But suddenly the rat turned around and...spoke? Scatter rose in confusion, drawing himself up and looking down at the strange creature with an odd expression on his face. He even dropped Tear. They don’t usually do that, do they? He asked his companion, just to make sure. Tear agreed, but what did it matter? The rat was still food. Okay! He smiled happily and wagged his tail again.
Tear says I should eat you anyway~ He moved closer to the little rat, drawing in the scent again. Even though you smell funny... He scrunched his nose up to emphasise the point and moved closer, slowly. He stopped a few feet away, half-crouched, and licked his chops again. Stomach really wanted this, especially now that food was right in front of him. Even if it was very unfood-like.
But a rat was a rat. And they tend to be rather much smaller than a wolf. Tear was adamant that it would run or get away somehow if he got much closer and that he should probably jump from there. As usual, Scatter would take Tear’s advice. He hunkered down on his forelegs and wiggled his backside in the air. One...Two...Three...Jump! Right into a wall. Wrong rat. Ouch... It wasn’t the first time double-vision had betrayed him in this way. He glanced over to where the rat really should be, but the world seemed to decide that it wanted to spin now on top of everything! Damn.

He's threats held no sway over the wolf that came closer and closer... And was that some sort of stuffed bear in its mouth? No matter. It could be ripped up too after he was finished with the wolf. If only he could shift back! It had finally occurred to the rat that if he wanted to stand any sort of chance against his opponent he would needed to be his full size, as unimpressive as that was.
And Tear? Who the hell was Tear? Perhaps it is the bear he holds in his mouth? Tsuttar's hissing stopped briefly and his head tilted as he considered this. This wolf had a friend that he talked to as well? 'Tsuttar! Pay attention!' The rat-wolf snapped out of his thoughts long enough to see that the four-eyed wolf had leaped at him. More from the wolf's aim and less from his dodging efforts he managed to get away unscathed.
That was an ample enough to scare for the wolf to come right out of him, he shifted quite quickly and rounded to face the wolf. The wolf who was now closer to Christa than he himself was. Fortunately, the wolf seemed to be a little disoriented which gave him the chance to rush in and grab the stone with his tail.
"You get anywhere near Chrissssta again and I'll rip off your tail and feed it to that bear!" Tsuttar was furious. First the stupid wolf had the nerve to attack him. Him! The Custos of Firea, a high rank that should earn him respect from all! Even a loner like he. 'Actually, he smells of Firea.' "Oh, Chrissssta don't be ridiculoussss he doessssn't-" A whiff of the air indeed informed the rat-wolf that his assailant was from Firea. "You are from Firea! I ought to tell Vixssssen that you tried to eat the Cusssstossss! Sssshe'll rip off your ears and feed them to Asssserio and then-then-then-then-" Tsuttar had worked himself into a hissing tizzy, he could barely even speak and concentrate on anything now. He started pacing around in a circle, ears and tail flicking to and fro.
Finally he stopped and peered at the wolf with his too-bright eyes after he had gained the ability to speak sensibly once more. "Exssssplain yoursssself!" His temper flared once more then abated as his eyes locked with the bear again, he didn't know what to think of it. Should it be included in any punishment (nonexistent as it would be) too? "And issss thissss your accomplisssse?" His eyes stared pointedly at the bear, not at all happy that this bear this Tear had wanted to eat him as well.
