Scritch, scritch, scritch.
-if I can do this!
Scritch scritch scritch.
I know! So exciting, so exciting! Look, even my tail thinks so!
Scritch, scritch – Scrape.
Oh. The scrawny wolf’s head bowed and his ears flattened as he felt the familiar scrape of claw against hard rock. It was typical – he’d be getting somewhere and then this. Tear had warned this might happen, but the bear was insistent that it had to be done, and Scatter agreed. Imagine! Digging through the world itself! Most wolves could only dream of such a thing, but Scatter, Scatter was going to be the one to do it! With his good friend, Tear, of course.
You think over here? Yes. Here smells good. Scatter cast a lopsided glance towards the stuffed bear, who was currently sitting sunning himself under one of the holes in the roof of the little, low underground passage. Tear liked to sit in the sun, sometimes. You should help! It’s fun! His tail wagged a little as he once again looked back at the bear. Sometimes Tear liked to sit where Scatter couldn’t reach. But the darkness would be coming soon, so it was okay. I know - you don’t have claws. I forgot.
Scatter returned to his task. He didn’t need Tear to help him anyway – his four paws could dig both holes at the same time!
Scritch, scritch, scritch.
I think I have it this time! His tail wagged uncontrollably; any more and he would fly off into the sky. C’mon Tear! Look!
Caw!
What? With a growl, Scatter turned. The crow cocked his head – Caw! Then it looked over at Tear and hopped closer. Scatter moved forward a few steps, a few more, slowly, slooooowly...JUMP! In a flurry of feathers, the crow was away. So was Tear. And Scatter screamed as the sun burned into his head, his shoulders. NO!!
He managed to roll backwards, out of the burning light, but it didn’t change the fact. Tear was gone! NO!! Tear!! Come back! Give him back to me! I’ll kill you! His teeth were bared and his voice was a growl. I’LL KILL YOU! GIVE TEAR BACK!! He yelled and yelled and howled and cried. But in the end all he could do was curl up in a ball, howl and whimper intermittently, and wait for darkness.
But Tear would still be gone.

A white blur ran through the forest giggling as she chased a tiny rabbit. It wasnt long before the rabbit disappeared and the blur had to sit down,as she was exhausted. The sun started to set,and Saya watched it amazed,as she always was.The beautiful vibrant colors of pinks, oranges, and yellows lighting up the sky right before it turned to black.Saya thought it was the best time of day,and the same when the sun rose again. To her it showed that there was still a little bit to look forward to each day. That and she would have little ones to look after very soon. Suddenly she saw a crow fly overheard and land in a nearby tree. The white wolf smiled padding over to the tree and sitting under it,looking at the crow."Hello Mr.Crow!"She said to the crow, wagging her tail a mile a minute. "What have you found today?"The crow dropped something from its beak and flew away with nothing but a loud CAW.Shaking her small head,Saya looked down at the object to find that it was just a ragedy old teddy bear.'Aw in a way its actually kind of cute'she thought sniffing at it a bit.A frown shown upon the arctic female's face.I guess you belong to someone mister bear...I should probably return you to whoever you belong too she thought smelling another wolf's scent on the bear."Well of we go then"Saya said quietly picking up the old bear in her jaws trotting off in the direction the crow came from. After walking a while,Saya came up to a rather large pit,and it had the unknown wolf's scent all over it.She walked closer to it,trying to see down into it,to see if anyone was in there.Maybe the wolf lived here.."Hello? Um I found your-Eeep!"She never got to finish her sentence as the part of ground she was standing on suddenly collapsed, sending her,the bear, and a mountain of dirt, down into the pit.
"I speak!" I think!

Eventually, he had just given up.
Curled in a corner, the scrawny wolf seemed to have lost all his energy. No more crying, no howling, no shouting. Just a listless form which quivered now and again with silent sobs. Tear was gone. He had been bear-napped. Taken by some horrible, evil, downright mean bird. And he hadn’t been able to do a damn thing about it.
Oh, he had tried. Of course he had tried – Tear was his closest friend and Scatter had run into the patch of light a few times, only to be sent sprawling back in agony. His skin was still burning in places and a little bits of hair lay in the dirt where they had fallen off his punished skin. There was no way he could have chased that stupid bird.
All Scatter could do now was wait for night to fall (not long now...), but somewhere, in the small part of his mind that was still open to logical thought, he knew his friend would be long gone. ...Probably turned into nesting...No no no. Can’t happen. Won’t happen. Somewhere between his quiet sobbing and his not-so-mental musings, the wolf had risen to his paws and was now pacing back and forward, back and forward, parallel to the light hitting his dark abode.
Make a nest out of crow feathers. Me and Tear. Be comfortable. Yeah, I’ll- But he was cut off by something very noisy from outside, echoing down into his brain. Not the time for noisy company! He growled as the noise spoke and squinted up into the light which was blocked by a shadow – what was that familiar shape accompanying the noise? He had no time to speak, and the noise seemed to be cut off mid-sentence as the world came tumbling down around him.
It was horrific.
Dirt, dust, rocks, and another body all crashing on top. And in between the dirt falling on him were spots of sunlight and he roared in intermittent pain. What was going on? Argh! Even when everything seemed still, Scatter was still rolling in pain, dust in his eyes and a wider patch of sun to blindly escape from.
